Public initiatives to implement the principles of “green” recovery in the process of rebuilding Ukraine are increasingly influencing governmental, parliamentary and international programs for the country’s post-war recovery.
This was emphasized by Olena Shuliak, chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the organization of state power, local self-government, regional development and urban planning.
In particular, according to her, the public and NGOs advocating the green course are increasingly focusing on the need to increase the percentage of renewable energy, land re-naturalization, thermal modernization of buildings, energy efficiency, decarbonization, etc. All of them are increasingly complementing the state’s green course.
“The integration of the environmental component into the overall policy of reconstruction and further development is being partially implemented at the legislative level today. At the legislative level, the Parliament has already set high requirements for the quality of building materials, as required by European regulation 305, introduced a ban on potentially harmful materials and introduced mandatory conditions for energy efficiency,” said Olena Shuliak.
The Ukrainian public, the MP emphasized, began to draw attention to the need for “green” reconstruction and advocate for this approach in the first months of the full-scale invasion.
“The Ukraine Reconstruction Fund is one of the organizations that has been emphasizing the importance of environmental restoration of Ukraine since its inception. Together with our partners, we have developed a number of social infrastructure reconstruction projects based on the principles of energy efficiency and sustainable development,” commented Viktoriia Korsunova, head of the URF Kyiv office.
