Ukraine’s local authorities should already start the development of the transfer programs to alternative heating systems or review the ones that already exist. Ukrainian Reconstruction Fund coordinating council member, Doctor of Economic Sciences Innola Novikova states.

«EU understands where Russian gas blackmail could lead and proposes its members to decrease gas consumption to 15% voluntarily in the nearest future. Simultaneously, western countries impose a stepwise embargo on gas boilers and subsidize the installation of alternative heating. Ukraine should follow this way. » – said Novikova.

In conditions of war and economic crisis, there is no optimism whether Ukraine has enough resources for the following heating season, – she added.

«Hence, Fund’s position states that all projects we are involved in have to meet the modern standards of energy efficiency. If a building is eligible for reconstruction, it will go through all stages of thermo-modernisation including supplying an alternative heating system. We arrange this at the beginning with the heads of city partners. » – summarized the coordinating council member.
